  42.  I.              INTRODUCTION
  43.  
  44.   ZBEST - CHECKBOOK PLUS  is a unique financial monitoring system.  Ideally
  45.   suited for small businesses and personal use.     Like most checkbook
  46.   systems ZBEST tracks checks and deposits for multiple checking, saving,
  47.   credit card accounts, etc. Also there is easy handling of reoccurring
  48.   expenses and receipts.  Complete ON-LINE help screens are available
  49.   throughout the program by pressing the F1 key.
  50.  
  51.   THE BIG DIFFERENCE.  ZBEST starts by tracking actual BILLS &
  52.   RECEIPTS.  Bills and receipts are entered into the system when you
  53.   get them, even if they are not going to be paid immediately.    Then the
  54.   bills and receipts are posted to CHECKS & DEPOSIT TICKETS as they
  55.   are paid.  From then on when looking at a check or deposit ticket the
  56.   supporting expenses can be viewed at the touch of a key.

  58.      WHY:  For Business this is especially useful when operating on
  59.        net 30 day terms, because many bills are paid with
  60.        one check.
  61.  
  62.        For PERSONAL users that buy many items using a credit card
  63.        at one time, but would like to allocate the expenses differently.
  64.        EXAMPLE: Shopping a Sears you might purchase items for the
  65.             household (which affects the basis of your house.
  66.             Very important for tax reasons.), and purchase
  67.             items for personal use.

  69.   A BONUS is included by the way ZBEST tracks loans.  Both loans given
  70.   by you to someone else, and loans received by you from someone. ZBEST
  71.   calculates loan payments based on standard amortization formulas.

  73.   GETTING STARTED - As you begin entering information pop-up windows
  74.   will prompt for information like account numbers, bank account names,
  75.   vendor names, etc.  After they are in the system data entry will
  76.   be much easier and smoother.    Also it is a good idea to call up the
  77.   help file from the main menu and read the SYSTEM OVERVIEW section.
  78.   You do not need to study it, just read it once quickly to get an
  79.   idea of what to expect.  Remember help is always available by
  80.   pressing the F1 Key.

  108.    II. Program setup

  110.     1. Change CONFIG.SYS file to include
  111.  
  112.            BUFFERS = 25
  113.            FILES   = 30
  114.  
  115.     2. There are two program files included:
  116.  
  117.            ZCKBKC.EXE  - Color version
  118.  
  119.            ZCKBKM.EXE  - Monochrome version
  120.  
  121.        Either of these programs can be run depending on the
  122.        system you have.  They are totally compatible with
  123.        each other. Depending what type of monitor you have
  124.        you can delete the program you do not want.

  126.        3. SUBDIRECTORY SETUP.  You can load the data files in a
  127.       different directory than the program files.  You must
  128.       be in the data subdirectory pathed to the program directory.
  129.       This allows you to run the program on a RAM DISK and leave
  130.       the data on the hard disk for power failure protection.

  132.        4. HELP FILE - ZCHK.HLP is the help file.  It should be located
  133.       in the program subdirectory.    The help file is not required
  134.       for proper operation of the system and can be deleted if
  135.       disk space is a problem.

  141.  III. FILE LISTING & DEFINITIONS
  142.  
  143.     ZCKBKC.EXE  - Main program file, color version.     It is a large
  144.               file but it is an overlay executable file, so it
  145.               will operate on a 512k system.  You only need
  146.               either ZCKBKC.exe or ZCKBKM.exe depending if
  147.               you have a color or monochrome monitor.
  148.  
  149.     ZCKBKM.EXE  - Same as ZCKBKC.EXE but for monochrome monitors.

  152.     ZCHK.HLP    - Help file for both monochrome and color program.
  153.  
  154.     TRANSACT.DAT- All bills and receipts.
  155.  
  156.     TRANSHLD.DAT- Holds reoccurring bills and receipts.

  158.     BANKACC.DAT - Holds all checks and deposit tickets.

  160.     ACCOUNTS.DAT- Holds expense and income account numbers.

  162.     FILLINS.DAT - Holds miscellaneous information for pop-up
  163.               lookup screens. VERY IMPORTANT FILE.

  168.             █ linking checks to corresponding bills, and █

  177.     FILLIN2.DAT - Holds other miscellaneous lookup information.

  180.     Files like FILLIN2.K01 are key files.  If key files
  181.     become corrupted (It has never happened to me!) the key
  182.     files can be deleted.  When the program starts it will
  183.     rebuild any missing key file.

  190.   IV. Acceleration Methods.

  192.        1. Operate the programs for RAM DISK.

  194.        2. USE FAST VIDEO.

  196.       Fast video disables waiting for video retrace prior to
  197.       writes to the screen.     It may cause "snow" on some
  198.       monitors.

  200.       Add  SET CLAVID='Y' to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  210.   V. Options.
  211.  
  212.    ZBEST allows you some control over the environment when starting
  213.    the program. You set options using "switches".  Switches are used
  214.    by placing the option after the command to start the program:
  215.  
  216.     ZCKBKC    /V=10  /F  /B=NO /E
  217.  
  218.        /V - Video timeout.  This will blank the screen after
  219.         10 minutes of not touching the keyboard.  To bring screen
  220.         back just press any key.  The default is 10 minutes, but
  221.         can be changed.

  223.        /F - Fast video.     Explained in acceleration methods previously.
  224.  
  225.        /B - BEEP. Beep is normally on, to turn off use /B=NO.
  226.  
  227.        /E - Enhanced keyboard. This will tell the system you are using
  228.         an enhanced keyboard.
